I normally don't "give up" anything for Lent (since I was forced to do this for 12 years while attending Catholic school). Anyway, I have found a wonderful church family and was baptized last December.

On Sunday, I watched the movie Courageous with my son. I had seen it before but he had not. I was thrilled that he enjoyed. However, it got me thinking. How can I continue to smoke and drink alcohol when I don't want me son to? So, I decided to give up alcohol and cigarettes for Lent - with the intent to permanently quit.

I need prayers for strength please to get through the cravings. I love my son so very much so I'm hoping it won't be too difficult. I want to be the parent God wants me to be. Thanks for the prayers!

My very close friend, Josh, is a wonderful friend, son and Christian. At the young age of 28, Josh lost his mother after her yearlong battle with lung cancer in January of 2010. Still grieving the loss of his mother, Josh received some more life changing news this summer. In August of 2011, Josh’s father was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. Josh’s dad, Daryl, underwent chemotherapy treatments throughout the fall; but unfortunately the treatments were not working the way we all had hoped. On January 24th, Daryl and his family decided to discontinue treatments and he was admitted into hospice care. Today, Daryl has gone to be with the Lord. Although it is not what we had prayed for, he is now with Lord which is the best blessing of all. We know the Lord can love him infinitely more than we can here on earth but please direct your prayers to Josh and his sister Jenna and the rest of their family and friends. Josh has recently turned back to his faith so please pray God's love surrounds him during this time of grief and sorrow and brings him peace and comfort.

My wife and i have been seperated since dec. 29th 2010 and I miss her and my son. They are my life and I would like prayer for the re-uniting of my family. She talks of divorce but has not filed.
